The purpose of the Nephrology Clinic at our polyclinic is to properly treat renal failure, to fully meet the needs of patients with symptoms of renal dysfunction, of hemodialysis patients, and to improve their quality of life, as well as the lives of their caregivers.
Kidney disease is a silent disease that may not show symptoms even with significant loss (80-90%) of kidney function.
The kidneys, like all organs in our body, age and are therefore more vulnerable to "illnesses" over time. Thus, adequate information and vigilance are needed regarding kidney health in the elderly.
Major causes of kidney disease are hypertension and diabetes.
Other causes include glomerulonephritis (diseases that cause inflammation in the kidneys), hereditary diseases (e.g. polycystic kidney disease), autoimmune diseases (e.g. lupus), obstructive problems (e.g. kidney stones, prostate hypertrophy), kidney tumors, recurrent urinary tract infections and malformations.
