Stress Echo, dynamic ultrasound of the heart is a specialized medical test for the diagnosis of coronary heart disease and evaluation of cardiac function..

The test is performed by a specialized and experienced Cardiologist.

In particular, via ultrasound (similar to heart triplex) we examine your heart health in stress conditions. 

Stree is induced chemically by intravenous administration of a specific medicine.

This stress in the until recently known "fatigue test" is induced by walking at increased intensity on a treadmill. Accordingly, the dose of dobutamine (medicine) administered is gradually increased (4 stages) making the heart beat with increasingly boosted intensity and pulse rate, just as it occurs during exercise.

At every stage of this test, the cardiologist observes how your heart responds via ultrasound and simultaneous continuous electrocardiogram recording, as in the stress test.

How long does the test last?

The test usually lasts 40-45 minutes.

What preparation is required?

  • Consult your cardiologist about possible discontinuation of any medication before testing. These are usually medications that reduce heart rate such as beta-blockers. It is not recommended to discontinue any medication without prior consultation with your doctor. 
  • Light lunch 2-3hrs before testing
  • Avoid having coffee and smoking a few hours before testing.
  • At your appointment, bring related medical tests or your record along with data about your medicines.
  • Prefer comfortable clothes and shoes for exercise.

Can I return to work after the exam?

After the test is complete, your pulse will return to normal within a few minutes. For safety reasons, you will be asked to remain in the waiting area for approximately 30 minutes. 
Then, you can return to your daily schedule with the only restriction being to avoid drinking coffee for about 2 hours. 
Stress Echo or simple Stress Test?

Stress echo is distinguished by its high diagnostic accuracy, even greater than the stress test.
In fact, according to international guidelines, it is now a preferable test over the stress test in patients with cardiovascular risk (e.g. diabetes, hypertension, hereditary history, etc.) or patients with already known coronary artery disease (balloon-stent, bypass, previous myocardial infarction).
It is also the ideal solution for patients who cannot walk quickly on a treadmill or have changes in their resting electrocardiogram.

Tests payment may be performed:

  • by card (credit card apart from American Express or debit card)

In case of using a discount through the use of specific contracted cards such as EY CLUB, etc., it is necessary to present them along with patient's/contractor's ID.
